Launch of LGBT+ Networks

This week sees the launch of LGBT+ Networks, a major new research project from the University of York in partnership with NHS Employers, Stonewall and Employers Network for Equality & Inclusion (enei). The project is investigating how LGBT networks operate, who takes part in them, how they are supported and what they can do to improve relationships between colleagues, and ultimately, enhance the wellbeing of LGBT employees.

To mark this launch we, the research team (Dr Anna Einarsdottir, Dr Bridget Lockyer, Professor Karen Mumford and Professor Yvonne Birks), are unveiling the project’s website: lgbtnetworks.org.uk. The website will be the hub of LGBT+ Networks, providing regular updates on the ongoing research through our blog and newsletters, as well as hosting forums for discussion between LGBT NHS networks and individual staff members across the UK. Although we will be working closely with our ‘case study’ LGBT networks, lgbtnetworks.org.uk is the principal way all NHS staff can be involved and contribute to the research as it progresses. It is vital to us that we hear and include as many different voices as possible.

We are also pleased to hold our first advisory board meeting this week at NHS Employers in Leeds. This will be a fantastic opportunity to discuss the implementation of the research with a wide range of practitioners from inside and outside this NHS, who share a commitment to the success and lasting impact of the project.

Please visit the website to find out more about the study and how you can get involved, and watch this space!
